Therapeutic Yoga for Lower Back Pain

Join Libby Hinsley, PT and Yoga Therapist, for two half-day workshops on therapeutic yoga.

In the morning session, we will explore common causes of low back pain, and then experience a practice designed to be therapeutic for the low back, hips, and pelvis. There will be plenty of time for questions about specific practice modifications for a variety of diagnoses affecting the low back, and ample discussion on using yoga practices to support greater ease, comfort, and healing to people with low back pain.

This workshop counts for Yoga Alliance CEUs for Registered Yoga Instructors.

Libby Hinsley, PT, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500, is a licensed Physical Therapist and a Certified Yoga Therapist. She has been teaching yoga for over 10 years and training yoga instructors for 7 years. Her yoga practice and teaching is most influenced by the tradition of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar in the viniyoga lineage. Her interest in therapeutic yoga led her to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy which she completed in 2011. She is a PT at Asheville Holistic Physical Therapy, where she integrates Yoga-based practices and Manual Therapy in her treatments. She specializes in the treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular complaints including back pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, and chronic pain.

Dance like all of your favorite 80's films for 45 minutes, then switch it up for some glowstick yoga! You'll sweat it out and glow it up and then be ready to hit the town for some celebratory food and drinks after. So, grab your friends, put on your legwarmers, and let's go back in time!

Get ready for the golf season by including an applied yoga practice as part of your conditioning program. These classes will focus on improving flexibility and strength, along with balance, core conditioning, breathing awareness, and mental acuity.
Each class will begin with a baseline evaluation, followed by grounding and centering, a dynamic warmup, asanas (poses) that support the golf swing, resting and visualization, and end with a baseline retest to take note of any change in your body after completing the class.
Golfers of all levels and yogis of all levels are welcome to participate.

Yoga is a complementary practice that is increasingly being used with other substance abuse treatment methods.

Yoga is being used to help prevent relapse, reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, and provide a healthy outlet to cope with triggers and other life stresses. Yoga also helps rebuild pathways in the brain that are altered by drug and alcohol abuse.

Benefits also include stress relief, better sleep, pain relief, increased energy levels, healthier exercise and eating habits, and emotional healing.

Instructor: Ashley is an instructor for Blue Ridge Yoga who has faced her own struggles with addiction. She has been sober for over 6 years.

Date/Time: Sundays, 2pm-3pm - This class will be held from Feb. 18 through Mar. 25. Come to 1, come to all 6, however many you'd like!
