Coming to Yoga Later in Life

We believe yoga is for everyone, but don’t just take our word for it.
Read our friend Kathy’s story about starting yoga in retirement.

I used to think yoga was only for certain people.

I have always felt a desire to learn more about yoga but as I was raising my children felt like I was too busy to take any time for myself. I felt like self-care was selfish when I had two small children that needed my attention. I worked full time and all my time outside of work was dedicated to my children.

As my children got older and I had a little more time to myself, I felt too tired and too busy to pursue yoga or anything else.

When I was 53 years old, the company I was working for closed and suddenly I had time on my hands. My children were grown and I found myself out of work with nothing but time. Every time I drove by Blue Ridge Yoga it seemed to call to me. One day I stopped and picked up a schedule and talked a friend into going with me to a class. I was apprehensive about going but decided it was time to get outside of my excuses and my comfort zone.

WOW, there is no way to describe how that decision has changed my life. I felt so comfortable from the moment I walked into Blue Ridge. Everyone who works there is so kind and welcoming. It is clear they care about the students, each other, and the community around them. BRY is a community where everyone is welcomed with open arms. There are folks of all ages and sizes, and I have found my tribe and my happy place there. Any day I get to practice at BRY is a happy day, and I have learned that so much more this past year. I have never felt so good in my body in all of my years and my spirit and soul are renewed each time that I am there. Thank you BRY for loving me and for showing me that there is no age or size limit for practicing yoga.

Namaste,
Kathy
