Yoga on Wheels with Jen Coffin

Yoga on Wheels

Join us in welcoming Jen Coffin as she makes a special visit to Blue Ridge to teach us about a fantastic yoga prop ---the Dharma Wheel!

Whether you are a die-hard yogi, new to the practice of yoga, or just want a fun workout prop, this workshop will help you to discover new ways of using your body more efficiently.

No wheel? No worries! 12 wheels are available for use or you can bring your own.

WE are so excited that a portion of our proceeds will go to this amazing program!

Girls on the Run is so much more than a running program!

Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity-based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd through 8thgrade. Girls on the Run is designed to develop and enhance girls’ social, psychological, and physical competencies to successfully navigate life experiences.

At Girls on the Run, we are moved and compelled to work diligently to create a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is inspired to be joyful, healthy and confident. Over a period of 10 weeks, GOTR participants follow a program designed to allow every girl to recognize her inner strength and inspire them to define their own lives on their own terms. Throughout the season, the girls make new friends, build confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique.

The GOTR lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face. They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences. It starts with helping girls get a better understanding of who they are and what’s important to them, then looks at the importance of team work and healthy relationships before exploring how they can positively connect with and shape the world.

Physical activity is woven into the program to inspire an appreciation of fitness and to build habits that lead to a lifetime of health. At the end of each ten-week session, the girls participate in a GOTR 5k event. This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of the curriculum and gives girls a tangible understanding of the confidence that comes through accomplishment as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals. Crossing the finish line is a defining moment when girls realize that even the seemingly impossible is possible.

The Results are in:

After participating in Girls on the Run, we have seen:

  • 85% of GOTR girls improved in confidence, competence, caring, character or connection.

    • The biggest gains were in connection (how supported GOTR girls felt by their peers) and confidence (how much GOTR girls liked the person they are).

  • GOTR girls who were least active at the start of the season increased in physical activity by more than 40%.

  • 97% of GOTR girls learned life skills

Can I be honest? I hate Valentine's Day! I have heard this sentiment from many people - both single and those in relationships. There is so much pressure to be with that special someone doing something special, that if you don't live up to the hype (and really, who does?), you can start to question yourself. You shouldn't have to feel this way - especially on a day that is dedicated to love! So, what can you do to make this Valentine's Day better than it has been before?

First, let's get our focus off the cultural demands of this holiday and start a new conversation about how to have a party of one...YOU! We are all in relationship with ourselves, and we spend more time with ourselves than with anyone else on earth. If you want to respect yourself, and feel great while doing it, you need to be good to yourself. You need to practice self-care.

Yoga is a great way to care for yourself.

We live in a brave, new world where even traditional medicine sees the benefit of yoga - the mind-body practice that can reduce stress, lower your blood pressure, and decrease your resting heart rate. Several scientific studies show that yoga helps reduce stress and anxiety (mental stress). In addition, practicing yoga helps your balance, flexibility, range of motion, and strength; all components of fitness. So, it makes sense that the best gift you can give yourself this Valentine's Day is the gift of self-care; the gift of yoga!

Join Blue Ridge Yoga in celebrating Valentine's Day with our self-love workshop! This night of self-care is for those needing more love in their lives! (Couldn't we all use a bit of that??!)
